Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa assured the public that the Lethabo power station has made a significant recovery following recent operational issues that led to load shedding.
During a visit on Friday to the Free State-based power plant—one of Eskom’s largest electricity-generating facilities—Ramokgopa assessed current performance levels and reviewed measures addressing recent challenges.
Lethabo power station, traditionally recognized as one of Eskom’s most reliable plants, faced substantial setbacks in recent weeks, losing three generating units. The loss resulted in the return of load shedding, disrupting over 300 consecutive days of stable electricity supply.
However, Minister Ramokgopa highlighted the rapid improvements at the facility, stating, “I must say that the station has recovered tremendously from the levels it was at about three or four weeks ago.”
The minister emphasized that his visit intended to pinpoint specific areas where the Lethabo power station could receive additional support to ensure sustained and reliable performance going forward.
