Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe feels South African football requires Kaizer Chiefs to be successful.
Last month, the billionaire said he was delighted to see Kaizer Chiefs making some progress with a possible return to continental football next season.
On Saturday, Amakhosi officially qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates. Before the final, the Soweto giants just needed the Buccaneers to secure second place in the Betway Premiership to enter the competition.
“South African football requires a successful Chiefs and and I am proud of the work the Motaung family are doing,” Motsepe said.
“Dr Kaizer Motaung is in a class of his own. I have said in the past that the days of success for Kaizer Chiefs are coming and … I think they will be even more successful in the future’.
“I am proud of all the teams from all over the continent,” he said.
Motsepe happy to have Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in CAF competitions
“It is so good to see two South African teams participating in the CAF (Champions League) semifinals … sustainable progress doesn’t happen overnight. It needs consistent investment and hard work. I wish the best Al Ahly, Pyramids, Pirates, who are my father’s club, and Stellenbosh (Stellies are playing in the Caf Confederation Cup semifinals). What’s the other team? And Sundowns!” Motsepe added.
Kaizer Chiefs have not played in any CAF competition since 2021, when they were finalists. On Saturday, the Glamour Boys ended their 10-year trophy drought in the Nedbank Cup.
