The Western Cape government has called on residents to remain vigilant and conserve water, following forecasts indicating a drier-than-usual winter for the region.
According to predictions from the South African Weather Service (SAWS), the province is expected to experience below-average rainfall in the coming months, sparking concerns about a potential drought.
However, authorities noted that the region remains in a relatively stable position due to robust rainfall over the past two winters.
Anton Bredell, the Western Cape MEC for local government, emphasized that despite past rainfall, responsible water use remains critical.
“Water is increasingly important globally due to various factors, including economic and population growth,” said Bredell. “Every drop counts, and we must continue our water-saving efforts.”
Bredell added that ongoing water conservation campaigns would remain active, aiming to ensure residents stay informed and proactive in their water-saving practices.
