The Western Cape government plans to channel more than R18 billion into healthcare infrastructure over the next ten years, with a significant portion of this budget earmarked for the long-awaited Tygerberg Hospital modernization project.
A public-private partnership, the initiative will replace the aging Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town with two advanced healthcare facilities. Speaking during the State of the Province Address on Wednesday, Premier Alan Winde also announced forthcoming regional hospitals for Klipfontein and Belhar.
“These initiatives represent a commitment to delivering dignified, high-quality healthcare, backed by innovation and collaboration, to benefit every resident of the Western Cape,” said Winde. “We want to ensure that, when opportunity presents itself, our communities are equipped to step up.”
Once completed, the modernized Tygerberg facilities and new regional hospitals will significantly enhance the province’s healthcare system, addressing both present needs and future demands.
